The Godley Files

The complete P.O.S.T record of Bob Godley. The former cop that thinks the whole county owes him an apology for his bad behavior.

There is a new blogger in town, who is also upset with this school system. Thank you Paul for standing up for what is right, and not backing down to the ESTABLISHMENT.

Good News From The Sheriff's Office

Sheriff Bill Smith received a Governor’s Award on Thursday, August 9, 2007 from the Brantley County Neighbors Helping Neighbors for his efforts in making a dream come true for Kayla Chancey. Kayla, a big fan of Dale Earnhart Jr, is the granddaughter of Bobby Joe Chancey Sr. who passed away in December 2004 after 16 years of service as a deputy with the CCSO. He had also served on the Brantley County Board of Commissioners. Kayla was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma (http://www.cancerindex.org/ccw/faq/ewings.htm) in 2004 and had part of a foot amputated as part of her treatment in May 2005.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors heard about Kayla’s cancer and decided to get involved. Through their efforts and a lot of networking the Earnhardt organization was contacted and the popular NASCAR driver agreed to meet Kayla on Sunday, October 30, 2005 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway prior to the day’s race.A deputy with the Camden County Sheriff’s Office volunteered to drive Kayla, along with her sister, a friend and her grandmother Mary Ruth Chancey to Atlanta. Mrs. Chancey said her granddaughter’s opportunity to meet the NASCAR driver was dream come true.

“I had a lot of respect for Bobby Chancey and I was honored to able to help Kayla fulfill her dream. Bobby loved his family very much and he understood that our children and our grandchildren are the fulfillment of our dreams. I wish only the best for Kayla, for Mary Ruth and their family.”

TRSP Review: Good news that I saw in the paper yet not on other websites.

This is what I've been saying about this Sheriff having his heart to the public, and giving as much as he possibly can. He is a Super person and is in our prayers. Keep doing good for our County and The votes will flow in your direction Sheriff.

It is truly a wonderful thing to help out this young lady.

But, I imagine that your thanks are mis-directed. I doubt seriously that Bill Smith contributed even a nickel out of his pocket, he just let a deputy drive a county car and burn county gas to the race.

Thank you taxpayers of Camden County for doing something good for one of our neighbors.

Its truly wonderful this young lady from Brantley County was able to have this experience.

However, I agree with the above post. If the Sheriff did not pay for this from his personal funds, and if that deputy was on the county clock when he took this young lady, then the thanks should go to the taxpayers of Camden County.

Sheriff, did you pay for this trip personally?

So are you trying to say Bill didn't use his own money to pay for this? Then why would he receive an award? Shouldn't that award go to the deputy that volunteered his or her time?

So this is not good news for the Sheriff's Office just Bill.

Has Bill Smith ever donated out of his own pocket? Looks like he donates out of the seized asset account and then takes the credit for it.

He donated to Coastal GA Community College out of seized assets, but the plaque on the wall recognizes Bill Smith only - not the deputies who recovered that money, not the Sheriff's Office as a whole, not the Camden's taxpayers - just Bill Smith.

Hell, I would like to see the price tag for just the bronze, bas relief bust of BTW on the wall. You could probaly give a full time student a full scholarship for a year with that alone!

Jay Moreno

P.S.,

I mispoke: the plaque is on the left, under the rotunda, via the center doors.

if you look at the paper work of the money spent, from that you can figure out that the money came out of seized money not his pocket. so give thanks to the deputies that risk thier lives on i-95 finding the cash for him to spend..

I understand he has removed those guys off I-95 and is trying to deplete the drug fund account so the commissioners will not have any money left. I over heard 2 deputies in a local restuarant saying they were told not to write any tickets, and let the commissioners figure out how to fund the pay roll,,, BTW KNOWS HOW TO SKIN THAT CAT,,,We need to find out how many tickets were issued 2 months ago, and how many were issued this month,,, Rick can we request this through open records.. its time for a change

I just spoke with a lady that had called Judge Williams number to ask for Dennis Perry's plea be thrown out and to grant him a new trial. Guess what? As soon as Dennis' name was mentioned, the secretary or whoever she was got very cold and told the lady she would have to send the judge a fax or write her a letter. AND THEN SHE WOULDN'T GIVE HER THE FAX NUMBER!! She was told she would have to write a letter..which the lady has done. Does that tell you there is something wrong with this case? You people in Camden County better wake up and smell the roses before you find yourself in the same position that Dennis is in. He isn't asking to be released. Just for a FAIR trial!!
