It has been brought to my attention that Sheriff Smith called for the only audit we have had on the drug funds. This was back when the Commissioners controlled it. Can anyone else confirm this? Interesting that when the Commissioners misspent, the Sheriff was all about an audit. But when it is in his hands he goes out of his way to FUDGE numbers on his local audit. If you wonder what I mean by FUDGED numbers read the first page of the 2006 audit that reads STANDARD ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES WERE NOT USED BY DIRECTION OF MANAGEMENT. (Scroll down for that audit.)

None of the departments in Camden County have an accurate audit performed. They all submit subjective information to the County Auditor. The disclosure statement on the Sheriff audit by the accountant is the same disclosure attached to every department audit in this county. Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, Probate Judge, Magistrate Judge, Clerk of Court, etc.
I remember reading in the newspaper that the Tax Commissioners office had not been audited in 25 years. My neighbor served on the board of Tax Accessor and I asked him if that was true. He said the Tax Commissioner has not refuted the statement.
Read todays headline in the Tribune & Georgian. It maybe a good idea for the people of Camden County to look into this subject. Because the local elected officials are mis-spending our money. None of these people have had an audit since they were elected into office. None of these people have ever lost an election. You do the math.
Of course Mr. Berry is well aware of this. But since he receives tremendous favors from all of the above he turns his head. The Sheriff stood up to him!! Thats why he wants to present this "I am all for the right thing for the people attitude" to the public.
When Commissioner Sears asked for a full audit of all departments. You notice that all of the Commissioners immediately voted against that. They all know the truth!! Preston Rhodes and David Rainer, I expect this out of them. But Nisi Zell, I am very surprised. Maybe we should have listened when E.B. Herrin told us that she was bought and paid for by Steve Berry.
We were told that every dept is audited every year. Are you saying that is not true?
I understand that Steve Berry can not be trusted, I believe I have said that several times.
So how did the Sheriff stand up to him. I don't unserstand that.
Every department is NOT audited every year by standard accounting principles (hence the disclaimer). The department heads do just as the Sheriff did. They submit certain information to the auditor and he does his audit on THAT information. But no one actually goes in an scrutinizes the books for themselves. So technically they can say that they have been audited, because someone does do a audit on the information that they provide.
I know it sounds weird. It was weird to me when I first discovered this. I actually called one of their past Auditors (CPA firms)and he told me thats why his company quit auditing the books of the County, especially that of the Constitutional Officers. Because they will not allow you to audit the actual books. ONLY the information that they provide you with.
Of course they will lie and tell you differently. All you have to do is look at any department audit mentioned. It has the same disclaimer as the Sheriff.
So this is not just a Sheriff Smith problem, they ALL do it.
He would not bend over and do as Mr. Berry requested!!! They were very close before this. They meet at Cracker Barrel in Kingsland on the regular.
But behind the scenes Commissioner Berry has always wanted to be in charge. He initially geeked/supported Rich Gamble to run against the Sheriff. Then Rich showed him that he had a brain and would not follow his orders. Steve Berry quickly dismissed that relationship. I heard he went as far as to tell Rich because you will not do as I say "Not only are you going to lose, but you are going to lose big" he said this before the votes were counted.
Do you really believe things are conducted above board in Camden County. Commissioner Berry is not who he pretends to be. Its either his way or he will seek to destroy you.
Have you ever wonder why he never has anything to say about the JDA. Although that department is like pouring money into a ocean. He is dating/whatever a JDA member daughter. This is all by design.
All I want is for Commissioner Berry to give the same fortitude to everyone involved that he is giving to Sheriff Smith. Lets air all of Camden County dirt. Better yet!!! Start with the election process. He didn't hire Danny Daniels for no reason. Danny is apart of the system. He knows where all of the bodies are buried. Commissioner Berry needs to keep him close right now.
